For whisky lovers all over the world, Saturday 17th May 2014 is a special day, for it is none other than ‘World Whisky Day’. A global celebration of the ‘Water of life’, World Whisky Day is a convenient excuse for a whole range of whisky themed events and parties. The concept is the brainchild of young Scottish entrepreneur Blair Bowman who launched the phenomenon as a Twitter hashtag #worldwhiskyday, while still a student in 2011. Since then it has gone from strength to strength and become a truly international event. This year there are planned whisky tastings, celebratory meals and ceilidh gigs from Scotland, Germany, Norway, Poland, Texas and Japan, among others. If you are going to any of these events send us your pictures or share your experiences with us.

Single Malt Scotch whisky truly is a wonderful thing, so why not join us for a dram at the Kingsmills Hotel on World Whisky Day?

For whisky lovers visiting Inverness, our luxurious hotel is conveniently situated close to many of Scotland’s most famous distilleries. Our distilleries are a proud heritage in their own right; handsome buildings set in stunning surroundings where the craft of making whisky has been practiced since the Nineteenth Century. Within easy reach of Inverness are the active distilleries of Glen Ord and Tomatin; and a short drive north on the A9 will take you to the Dalmore distillery near Invergordon, as well as the world famous Glenmorangie. With regular tours organised throughout the day it is possible to visit all five distilleries within one day trip, although committed malt aficionados would of course have to make sure they had a designated driver! Our local distilleries create malt whisky according to the ‘Highland’ style. If you have more time and wanted to head east along the coast you will find the historic Speyside area, with its own rich traditions and distinctive whisky style. With all these distilleries there is a large choice of whiskeys to choose from, so please share with us your favourite tipple and tell us why!
